Who would not love to have a wedding that looked like it cost a million bucks right? Well, unfortunately there are not too many people out there that can afford to spend that much on their wedding, especially in today's economy. The average US couple spends between $14,366- $43,098 on their wedding, and this price does not include their rings or their honeymoon. So, every month I have come up with a few ideas that can help you save a little money on your wedding, but yet can create that look and feel that you have always desired. This month's focus is location and food. Check back next month for tips on wedding apparel and wedding day beauty.
Ceremony and Reception Location-
Most wedding venues will give discounted prices for their "off" days, like weekdays or even Sundays. Why not have a Sunday afternoon tea, complete with scones and jam? Or check out your friends' or relatives' backyards. A small, intimate backyard wedding can be beautiful. Parks, beaches or arboretums can also make exquisite sites and are fairly inexpensive.
Food/Drinks-
Most restaurants and/or catering services will charge for delivery of food and set-up. See if you can just get them to prepare the food and have a friend, family member, or coordinator pick it up and set it up at the site in pretty dishes. This works well for food stations or buffet (not really a sit down dinner). Also, during day weddings people tend to eat less and drink less alcohol, so consider a noon wedding. Finally, if you would like to have an open bar but can't face the price, see how much the venue charges for a corkage fee. Or just try serving wine, beer, and/or a signature cocktail. For example, if your wedding colors are pink…serve a pink cosmo and give it a cute name that goes with the theme of your wedding. Adding a swizzle stick to it, just adds even more flair.
